MDS Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics

MDS Orthodontics is a three years academic program run by Tribhuvan University, Institute of Medicine.

The course is designed to teach students the aspects and techniques of Orthodontics, such as molding and setting of teeth braces, invis-aligning of teeth, using retainers to remove dental deformity etc. 

Program Overview

MDS Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics deals with alignment of oral arches : the mandible and the maxilla. MDS Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics is a 3 year full time postgraduate course which deals with diagnosis, prevention, correction of malocclusion along with other abnormalities available in the developing or mature oro-facial structures.

The course is designed to teach students the aspects and techniques of Orthodontics, such as molding and setting of teeth braces, invis-aligning of teeth, using retainers to remove dental deformity etc.

GOALS OF THE PROGRAM

This program is designed to train dental surgeons with a career in Orthodontics and dento-facial Orthopedics with an emphasis on prevention as well as correction.

  • To train students in the knowledge of supervision, guidance and correction of growing and mature dento-facial structures.
  • To train students to diagnose the common orthodontic problems such as dental malocclusion, skeletal jaw discrepancies, malformation and malfunctioning of oro-facial structures, and understand the etiology and pathophysiology to describe the clinical signs and symptoms.
  • To critically analyse various treatment options and deliver them efficiently in an evidence-based rational approach.
  • Train students in competence to design and manage appropriate intra or extra oral, removable, or fixed orthodontic, myo-functional and orthopedic appliance for a given orthodontic problem.
  • To manage potential problems of mechanotherapy, post treatment relapse and effectively initiate corrective procedures.
  • To provide opportunities for a career in Orthodontics and Dento-facial Orthopedics.
    Trains students in a high degree of clinical proficiency in the subject matter and develops competence in research and its methodology in the orthodontic field.
  • Trains students to respect patient’s rights and privileges, including a patient’s right to information. 
    To encourage humility and teamwork.

ADMISSION CRITERIA

  • BDS or equivalent from institutions recognized by the government of Nepal
  • Registered in Nepal Medical Council
  • Registered in the respective medical council of the applicant's own country for foreign candidates
  • One year experience
  • Candidate should score a minimum of 50% (Pass Marks) in the Entrance Examinations conducted by Medical Education Commission for being eligible to be on the merit list

CANDIDATE SELECTION PROCESS

Eligible candidates should appear for the entrance exam conducted by IOM (It is conducted tentatively on the month of Bhadra according to Nepalese calendar), Exam section and the merit list will be published based on the marks secured in the entrance examination. The candidate selection and admission will then be done following the guidelines set by IOM (on merit basis and post-counseling sessions held by IOM).

FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

International students should have an eligibility certificate from the concerned authority of their country, a valid student visa (if visa is required to stay in Nepal) and eligibility certificate issued by IoM or Ministry of Education of Nepal.

To get the admission in in this programme, along with all other academic documents and proof of nationality, Indian candidate should also submit eligibility certificate issued from Medical Council of India (MCI), New Delhi, India before admission.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

After fulfilling the aforementioned criteria, students have to visit CMC College along with the guardians and have to present the original copies of all the academic certificates. Thereafter, students have to fill up necessary documents and agreement papers as per the rules and requirements of CMC.

MEDICAL FITNESS

Successful candidates will have to undergo medical test by a Medical Board constituted by the College and must be declared fit for final admission.

DRESS CODE

Students should be in the prescribed dress code of the institute in college/hospital premises. No student will be allowed to enter the college compound without proper uniform in college days. CMC believes appropriate dressing is important for creation of positive learning environment.
