GOALS OF THE PROGRAM

  • To train specialists in Internal medicine with adequate knowledge, attitude and skills to enable them to function as consultants in Internal medicine.
  • To develop qualities of having the initiatives creativity, sound judgement and logical deduction so as to provide academic leadership in medicine.
  • To develop skills of critical analysis of scientific literature.
  • Be conversant with recent advances in medicine.
  • To develop skill in thesis writing.
  • To develop skills in clinical research.
  • To develop skills as a teacher/trainer of a health team.

ADMISSION CRITERIA

  • MBBS or equivalent degree in allopathic medicine from a recognized university.
  • Full registration with Nepal Medical Council.
  • A one-year work experience in any institution approved by IOM for such purpose.
  • Passing of post graduate entrance examination and selection as per the merit list of the result.

CANDIDATE SELECTION PROCESS

Eligible candidates should appear for the entrance exam conducted by IOM (It is conducted tentatively on the month of Bhadra according to Nepalese calendar), Exam section and the merit list will be published based on the marks secured in the entrance examination. The candidate selection and admission will then be done following the guidelines set by IOM (on merit basis and post-counseling sessions held by IOM).

FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

International students should have an eligibility certificate from the concerned authority of their country, a valid student visa (if visa is required to stay in Nepal) and eligibility certificate issued by IoM or Ministry of Education of Nepal.

To get the admission in this course, along with all other academic documents and proof of nationality, Indian candidate should also submit eligibility certificate issued from Medical Council of India (MCI), New Delhi, India before admission.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

After fulfilling the aforementioned criteria, students have to visit CMC College along with the guardians and have to present the original copies of all the academic certificates. Thereafter, students have to fill up necessary documents and agreement papers as per the rules and requirements of CMC.

MEDICAL FITNESS

Successful candidates will have to undergo medical test by a Medical Board constituted by the College and must be declared fit for final admission.

Methods of training

  1. The postgraduate students will go through a 3 year full time residential training programme. A preceptor will be designated to each student.
  2. The PG students will be encouraged towards self-directed learning. The preceptor will function as a guide only.
  3. Formal lectures will be kept to a minimum.
  4. Guidance will be provided in Basic Medical Sciences by teachers of Basic Science Department during the first year. Tutorials will be held in Basic Sciences, Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Pharmacology.
  5. Clinical training will be provided by placement of PG students in medicine department where they will work as residents. They will work in OPD, inpatients and be on 24 hours on call twice a week during which they will clerk cases, and participate in managing patients under supervision. They will be given more responsibility in the 2nd and 3rd year.
  6. Research topic to write a thesis and defend it before final examination. Preceptor/s will guide and supervise the students in research and thesis writing.

DRESS CODE

Students should be in the prescribed dress code of the institute in college/hospital premises. No student will be allowed to enter the college compound without proper uniform in college days. CMC believes appropriate dressing is important for creation of positive learning environment.
