MD/MS-Obstetrics and Gynaecology

This is a three-year residency programme started in 1994. The goal of this program is to produce specialists in the field of obstetrics, gynaecology and family planning for reduction of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality.

It also aims in academisation of the institutes to provide higher (standard) level of care to women and their newborns.

GOALS OF THE PROGRAM

  1. Accquire qualities of sound judgement in managing obstetrical and gynaecological condition to undertake fully independent clinical practice.
  2. Apply the knowledge, including various aspect of epidemiology, to organize services pertaining to the reproductive health of a woman (preventive, promotive and curative).
  3. Participate in teaching/learning activities and research in the field of obstetric, gynaecology and family planning.
  4. Acquire knowledge regarding administration and finance relevant to the practice of obstetric, gynaecology and family planning.

ADMISSION CRITERIA

  • The candidate must be have passed MBBS or its equivalent from any recognized university and must have complete compulsory rotating internship.
  • Must have appropriate registration with the Nepal Medical Council.
  • Must have a post internship working experience of one year in a recognized hospital.

CANDIDATE SELECTION PROCESS

Eligible candidates should appear for the entrance exam conducted by IOM (It is conducted tentatively on the month of Bhadra according to Nepalese calendar), Exam section and the merit list will be published based on the marks secured in the entrance examination. The candidate selection and admission will then be done following the guidelines set by IOM (on merit basis and post-counseling sessions held by IOM).

FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

International students should have an eligibility certificate from the concerned authority of their country, a valid student visa (if visa is required to stay in Nepal) and eligibility certificate issued by IoM or Ministry of Education of Nepal.

To get the admission in in this programme, along with all other academic documents and proof of nationality, Indian candidate should also submit eligibility certificate issued from Medical Council of India (MCI), New Delhi, India before admission.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

After fulfilling the aforementioned criteria, students have to visit CMC College along with the guardians and have to present the original copies of all the academic certificates. Thereafter, students have to fill up necessary documents and agreement papers as per the rules and requirements of CMC.

MEDICAL FITNESS

Successful candidates will have to undergo medical test by a Medical Board constituted by the College and must be declared fit for final admission.

Method of Training

Evaluation Scheme
The evaluation of the PG students in surgery will be divided into three phases.

Phase One
Evaluation of basic medical science paper. Twenty percent of total mark will be through the internal assessment.

Phase Two
During the second year of residency programme the students will conduct the research work to write their thesis. At the end of 2nd year, the guide will approve his/her thesis. and submit it to the examination section before appearing in the final MS examination. The student will defend his/her thesis in the first half of 3rd year and get it approved.

Phase Three
Basic medical science paper examination will be held in Phase three which will have both theory and practical examination. Main emphasis will be give on OSCE type of evaluation in practical examination. Pass mark will be of fifty percent in both theory and practical.
At the end of third year, final examination will be held which will have theory, oral and practical examinations. Twenty percent of marks is allocated to the internal assessment. Theory paper will have MCQ, short answer and a few essay type questions. Oral, practical will be more of OSCE type of examination.

DRESS CODE

Students should be in the prescribed dress code of the institute in college/hospital premises. No student will be allowed to enter the college compound without proper uniform in college days. CMC believes appropriate dressing is important for creation of positive learning environment.
