Program Overview

The BPH program at CMC is designed to prepare scholar-practitioners with knowledge and skills in the core concepts of public health including health behavior, research and statistics in health, environmental health, epidemiology, and health administration, as well as in the planning, evaluation, organization, and conduct of community and public health services.  The planned course of study adopts an interdisciplinary focus and includes the development of tailored skills through the successful completion of theoretical and practical learning. 

The degree will prepare students who are interested in pursuing health-related careers in health promotion, program delivery; health communication, community organization, and behavior change for entry-level to mid-level positions in service and research in health departments, public health agencies, community-based organizations, outreach education programs, hospitals, private health organizations, and corporate wellness settings.  The BPH program is designed to appeal to students with interests in “population” rather than “individual” health.

GOALS OF THE PROGRAM

The goals of the BPH Programme are to train graduates to evaluate and analyse the challenges confronting public health and the provision of health services today; engage in policy debates about global and international health; and respond to the challenge of the widening health inequalities that exist within and between communities and indeed countries.

A Bachelor's in Public Health is an undergraduate degree that provides an individual with the skills needed to enter into a wide variety of fields within public health. The overall purpose of BPH Programme is to prepare competent and responsible public health graduates needed for the country to respond to the health needs of people.  The aim of this BPH programme is to provide students with a broad knowledge of the theories and methods of public health as well as skills in working with the health problems of the communities in which they work. Public Health graduates will have a wide range of working scope in public & private sectors, as well as in service & academic sectors. The graduates with BPH degree can serve as public health  officer or in other positions at national, regional, district and community level in the government; in national and international non-governmental organizations. Public health graduates can also work in teaching and research institutions. 

ADMISSION CRITERIA

  • The candidate should have Passed 10+2 Science containing Physics, Chemistry and Biology with minimum of 50% aggregate in total marks or GPA 2.4 or equivalent
    OR
    Secured the Percentage equivalent to above eligibility in regards to the certificate level programs (eg. A-Level) with different grading system.
  • All candidates should secure at least 50th percentile or above in the entrance examination to qualify.
  • Notice will be published for the candidates to set their priority of colleges. Then computer based matching will be done on the basis of merit and the candidates priority among the available seats.
  • Those who appear in the entrance examination conducted by Medical Education Commission will be given the first priority.
  • If the seat fall vacant, matching will be done among those who have passed the national level entrance examination of their respective countries who agreed the condition to be in second priority in the merit list and have secured at least 50% marks, or at least 50th percentile or above in national level medical entrance examination in their respective countries.
  • The remaining seats after completion of the matching of foreign candidates will be transferred to Nepalese open (paying) seats. Foreign candidates who are selected for admission are required to produce original documents at the time of admission.
  • Candidates who submit the fake information/documents will be liable for legal actions as per prevailing rule and regulations of Nepal.
  • Medical Education Common Entrance Examination Committee reserves all the rights - regarding entrance examination.

CANDIDATE SELECTION PROCESS

  • The application can only be submitted online through www.mec.gov.np or https://entrance.mec.gov.np
  • Documents Required
    • Last six digits of transaction reference number (TRN) and applicants mobile number
    • Recent Passport size photograph
    • Passport or Aadhaar card
    • Transcript of 10+2 level or equivalent
    • Respective Council registration certificate of respective country (if applicable)
  • Students can be rusticated any time (even after admission) if found guilty in submitting fake information, fake documents or wrong identity.
  • Once the application is filled, the necessary documents are to be uploaded and the self-declaration is to be done. It is advised to review (Edit/save) the application before submission. Once the application is submitted, it is not editable.
  • A Confirmation Page will be displayed only after verification of bank payment. You can save/print it for future reference. It is not Admit Card but a proof for Online Form submission.
  • Students should print their own admit card by providing details in the "Check Application Status" page which can be visited by clicking "Check your status/print admit card" button in home page. Admit card can be printed before five days of entrance examination date.
  • Candidates will be responsible for all travel arrangements. Candidates should abide by the current rules and regulations laid down by Government of Nepal.

FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

International students should have an eligibility certificate from the concerned authority of their country, a valid student visa (if visa is required to stay in Nepal) and eligibility certificate issued by IoM or Ministry of Education of Nepal.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

After fulfilling the aforementioned criteria, students have to visit CMC College along with the guardians and have to present the original copies of all the academic certificates. Thereafter, students have to fill up necessary documents and agreement papers as per the rules and requirements of CMC.

MEDICAL FITNESS

Successful candidates will have to undergo medical test by a Medical Board constituted by the College and must be declared fit for final admission.

Bachelor in Public Health is a four academic year programme which includes six months practicum in the final year.

Career Opportunities

There is growing concern for improvement of health status from all stakeholders within Nepal or in the foreign countries. Provision of equitable access to health care for attainment of an acceptable level of health and better quality of life of the people by creating more equitable distribution of resources is the dominant concern of Nepal today. In many parts of the world scientists are investing themselves in introducing public health interventions that can deal with the lifestyle. However, Nepal is facing three fold burdens of diseases (communicable, lifestyle related and poverty). In order to cope with this complex situation, development of public health graduates has become inescapable. Very few number of public health workers are working within Nepal or in the other countries. In general, a BPH graduates can choose following area to build the career.

A host of specialists, including teachers, journalists, researchers, administrators, environmentalists, demographers, social workers, laboratory scientists, and attorneys, work to protect the health of the public.

Public health is a field geared toward serving others. Public health professionals serve local, national, and international communities. They are leaders who meet the many exciting challenges in protecting the public’s health today and in the future.

Public health is a rewarding field. The field of public health offers great personal fulfillment working towards improving people’s health and well being is a rewarding day’s work.

Who should consider a degree in public health?

Public health is a field that offers an abundance of job opportunities to suit a variety of interests and skills. Whether you are interested in crunching numbers, conducting research, or working with people, there is a place for you in the field of public health. Recent college graduates and those that have been in the field for years have something to offer and to gain in this field. Public health is ideal for those that gain satisfaction knowing that they are working to improve the lives of others.

Where do public health professionals work?

Public health professionals work in both public and private sectors. Many public health graduates will find work in the public sector in local, or government health departments. The jobs available at health departments range from Food Safety Inspectors to Health Educators; from policy analysts to Epidemiologists. Others public health professionals will find work as researchers.

Those interested in working for a non-profit organization can find jobs in health advocacy, policy, or research for organizations such as the Nepal Cancer Society, the Red Cross, or a local non-profit that focuses on specific health issues. Still other public health professionals will find work in the private sector, working in pharmaceutical or health insurance companies.

DRESS CODE

Students should be in the prescribed dress code of the institute in college/hospital premises. No student will be allowed to enter the college compound without proper uniform in college days. CMC believes appropriate dressing is important for creation of positive learning environment.
